Cross-Domain Risk Laboratory
The Cross-Domain Risk Lab is EGTF's flagship research initiative, dedicated to studying the systemic interactions between global catastrophic risk domains. Conventional risk analysis treats nuclear, pandemic, climate, and AI risks as separate analytical problems. The CDR Lab builds integrated models that capture how these risks compound and amplify one another — such as how climate stress erodes the institutional capacity needed to manage nuclear or pandemic crises. The Lab produces quarterly risk interaction reports and hosts an annual expert symposium that brings together specialists across all six EGTF threat domains.
Global Biosecurity Policy Network
The Global Biosecurity Policy Network connects EGTF researchers with biosecurity officials, public health leaders, and arms control specialists across 30+ countries. The Network monitors implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention, tracks biosafety governance developments at national and international levels, and facilitates information exchange between practitioners who would not otherwise share a common forum. Network activities include annual workshops, rapid policy briefs in response to biosecurity developments, and secondment opportunities for government analysts.
AI Governance Engagement Program
The AI Governance Engagement Program bridges EGTF's technical AI risk research and the policy institutions tasked with regulating advanced technology. The Program provides expert testimony to legislative bodies, facilitates dialogues between AI developers and governance officials, and produces policy-accessible summaries of technical AI safety findings. In 2024, Program staff presented directly to the UN Technology Committee on the need for binding international standards on frontier AI systems — a direct translation of published EGTF research into policy advocacy.
EGTF Fellowship Program
The EGTF Fellowship Program supports early-career researchers working on catastrophic and existential risk. Annually, eight to twelve fellows are selected from graduate programs and early postdoctoral positions globally. Fellows receive stipends, access to EGTF's research resources and expert network, mentorship from senior EGTF staff, and publication support. Fellows are placed within one of EGTF's six research programs for their fellowship period. Since the program's inception, over 40 fellows have gone on to positions in academic research, government policy, and intergovernmental organizations. Applications open each spring.
Global Pandemic Preparedness Index
The Global Pandemic Preparedness Index is a joint initiative co-developed by EGTF and partner institutions to provide a systematic, comparable assessment of national pandemic preparedness across 80+ countries. The Index evaluates surveillance capacity, health system resilience, laboratory infrastructure, regulatory speed, and international cooperation mechanisms. Updated biennially, the GPPI is used by ministries of health, development finance institutions, and intergovernmental organizations as a reference tool for preparedness investment prioritization. The 2024 GPPI edition is currently in preparation.
Decision-Maker Briefing Series
The Decision-Maker Briefing Series delivers structured, accessible briefings on catastrophic risk for senior government officials, parliamentary staffers, diplomatic personnel, and institutional leaders who do not have specialized scientific backgrounds but are responsible for decisions with existential risk implications. Briefings are offered in-person and remotely, tailored to the specific decision context of participants. The Series has been delivered to participants from over 25 countries.
